JUNE 2010:

June 19th – 20th:
POWER OF THE WRITTEN (& VISUAL!) WORD

Artist Latifah Shay is joining writing workshop instructor Jamila Vicki Davies as a co-teacher on Saturday and Sunday June 19 & 20 in Silver Spring!

Latifah and Jamila first worked together on a workshop for veterans in March at the Farm of Peace, and after announcing this writing workshop
the inspiration came to team up again.

Workshop Overview

In her over 40 years of journal writing, Jamila has found that the written word can open one to his or her own deepest wisdom and spiritual insight. She has found a way that allows others to open more easily to their own deepest wisdom. Through this process, a practice she calls writing from the heart, the writer is able to receive insights that may otherwise remain hidden from conscious awareness.

Latifah uses artistic and visual techniques to help people see and describe their deepest insights and direction. Using both written and visual techniques, they bring together profound tools of sensory perception and self discovery.

What you will learn:

  • A practice to open you to your deepest need in the moment.
  • A practice that produces insights and breakthroughs that may otherwise be overlooked even after years of writing.
  • A practice that helps you connect to your most intimate sense of self and to reveal your inner wisdom through art and writing.
  • A practice that gives you a clarity of thought, as if God were revealing Himself to you in your own words.

About the Instructors

Jamila Vicki Davies is practiced in the art of healing as a Sufi Master Teacher (Muqaddim) in the Shadhdhuliyya Sufi tradition. She completed a Masters in Spiritual Ministry through the University of Spiritual Healing and Sufism in 2007.

As a meditator and teacher in the Vedic tradition for over 30 years before becoming a student of Sufism, Jamila taught hundreds of people the art of opening to the deep silence within.

Her love of journal writing began more than 40 years ago and recently she revisited this tool of self discovery in her masters practicum in Spiritual Ministry. She found that people open more quickly to their authentic voice through the practice of “remembrance”, and through journaling they are able to express in their own words their own deepest wisdom.
